In Coming!

In Coming is a new feature where I spotlight an up-and-coming actor or actress. I love watching a movie and being introduced to an actor and watching them turn into a household name. First up:

What I first saw her in: I first saw Alicia Vikander in the trailer for Ex Machina and I immediately took notice. Since then, it's been one of my most anticipated films of the year. Ex Machina is my favorite film of the year so far and much of the credit goes to Vikander who gives a fantastic performance. In Ex Machina, she does more acting with the wrinkle of her brow or the crack of a smile than most actors do with their entire bodies. What's even more impressive is that Vikander isn't playing a human at all. In fact, she plays the world's first humanoid artificial intelligence.

What she's done recently: Vikander has been in a few films over the past couple years. She was in the period piece dramas Anna Karenina and The Royal Affair. She was also in The Fifth Estate with Benedict Cumberbatch. Recently, she could be seen in Seventh Son, which will probably end up being one of the worst films on her filmography when it's all said and done.

What's next: A LOT! Vikander has a whopping 7 films being released this year. Besides Ex Machina, she will star alongside Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz in The Light Between Oceans directed by Derek Cianfrance. She will also appear in the Guy Ritchie film The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which is a remake of the 60's spy comedy TV show. Vikander will also star in The Danish Girl, a film that's already getting Oscar buzz for Eddie Redmayne's performance as a transgender woman. The film is directed by Tom Hooper (King's Speech).
